In November 2006 mobilkom austria group won the tender for a license in the Republic of Serbia. In July 2007 Vip mobile was launched as the third mobile communications provider of the country - only six months after having received the license.

Mobile phone penetration in the Republic of Serbia amounts to 117.2 %. At the end of 2007 Vip mobile already had 508.900 customers and a market share of 5.8 %.
